Open Water Diver

Purpose:

  1. This Program is designed to provide comprehensive training to those who wish to become SCUBA divers.
  2. This Program emphasizes the skills and knowledge needed to develop a safer novice diver and to develop a sense of confidence and responsibility in those joining the adventures of underwater discovery.
  3. This Program qualifies a diver to dive to a maximum depth of 70 fsw (21 msw) in open water, accompanied by other divers of at least the same level, without supervision of a Divemaster, Assistant Instructor or Instructor. The diver can dive to a maximum depth of 100 fsw (30 msw) if they are guided or supervised dive by a dive master or instructor.
  4. This program qualifies a diver to participate in diving activities where Appropriate Diver Support is always available at the surface, where in-water decompression stops are not required, and under conditions that are equal or better than the conditions where they were trained. If diving in conditions significantly different from those previously experienced the diver shall require an appropriate orientation.
  5. Upon completion of the Open Water Nitrox Diver Program, the diver may dive any EANx mixture from Air to EAN 40.
  6. If accompanied by an Instructor, an OW Diver or OWND may gain progressive experience beyond these parameters and develop competency in managing more challenging diving conditions designed to lead to higher qualifications. Where further instruction is required, this can only be provided by an Instructor.

  1. Must be a minimum of 15 years of age with a parent or guardian authorization, or a minimum of 12 years of age for Junior Diver qualification, or a minimum of 18 years of age without guardian approval.

Advanced Open Water Diver

Purpose:

  1. This mid-level Continuing Education Program is designed to enable SSI Open Water / Recreational Rebreather Divers to extend their proficiency in the water and to gain more supervised practical experience.
  2. This Program qualifies a diver to dive to a maximum depth of 100 fsw (30 msw).

Prerequisites:

  1. Must be a qualified SSI Open Water / Recreational Rebreather Diver or any Entry Level Diver equivalent.
  2. Must be a minimum of 15 years of age with a parent or guardian authorization, or a minimum of 12 years of age for Junior Diver qualification, or a minimum or 18 years of age without guardian approval.

Diver First Aid

Purpose:

  1. This Program is designed to teach divers how to manage diving accidents and other injuries that may occur at a dive site.

Prerequisites:

  1. Must be a minimum of 15 years of age with a parent or guardian authorization, or a minimum of 12 years of age for Junior qualification, or a minimum of 18 years of age without guardian approval.
  2. No other for any program.

Oxygen Administrator

Purpose:

  1. This Program is designed to teach people how to utilize and administer oxygen for dive accident management.

Prerequisites:

  1. Must be a minimum of 15 years of age with a parent or guardian authorization, or a minimum of 12 years of age for Junior qualification, or a minimum of 18 years of age without guardian approval.
  2. No other for any program.

Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

Purpose:

  1. This Program is designed to teach people how to perform CPR on people who are old enough to dive for dive accident management.

Prerequisites:

  1. Must be a minimum of 15 years of age with a parent or guardian authorization, or a minimum of 12 years of age for Junior qualification, or a minimum of 18 years of age without guardian approval.
  2. No other for any program.

Rescue Diver

Purpose:

  1. This Program is designed to develop proficiency in self- and buddy-rescue.

Prerequisites:

  1. Must be a qualified Advanced Open Water Diver in the discipline the student wishes to take (OC, SCR, CCR) or must provide proof of a minimum of 10 logged dives.
  2. Must be qualified in Diving First Aid, Oxygen Administrator and CPR.
  3. AED certification is recommended
  4. Must be a minimum of 18 years of age

Dive Master

Purpose:

  1. This Program is designed to provide responsible training for those persons wishing to supervise SSI divers. These include SSI Open Water Diver, SSI EANx Diver, SSI Advanced EANx Diver, and SSI Deep Diver. Dive Masters may teach Snorkel Skin Diver. Dive Masters who complete Item 2 under Program Content may teach the SSI OW Free Diver course. If the SSI Divemaster is Recreational Trimix and / or Advanced Recreational Trimix certified than they may supervise these courses as well as be awarded a Advanced EANx or Advanced Recreational Trimix Supervisor qualification.
  2. SSI Dive Masters may supervise, escort and assist in all SSI Open Water SCUBA Diver Programs but cannot conduct SCUBA training exercises unless under the direction of a qualified SSI Advanced EANx Instructor.
  3. SSI Dive Masters are qualified to plan and execute emergency procedures appropriate for the diving activity and environment.
  4. Upon completion of the program, Dive Masters may conduct any specialized scuba diving activities for which they have received appropriate training. If diving in conditions significantly different from those previously experienced the Dive Master shall require an appropriate orientation.

Prerequisites:

  1. Must be qualified as an SSI Advanced EANx Diver, or Advanced Recreational Trimix Diver, First Aid to include CPR, Oxygen Provider and SSI Rescue or equivalent. If an equivalent certification is accepted, CPR and Oxygen Provider must be current within the last two (2) years. Qualification in two (2) optional SSI Specialty Programs is recommended.
  2. Must provide proof of a minimum of 60 logged dives.
  3. Must be a minimum of 18 years of age

Snorkeling diver

Program Description:

Learn how to use safely and efficiently snorkeling equipment and make breath holding dives to the depth of 3 meters.
Ideal for children traveling with diving parents.

Duration:

One to two days.

Prerequisites:

  1. Minimum age of 6.
  2. Competent swimming skill.

Open water free diver

Program Description:

Learn how to use safely and efficiently free diving equipment and make free dives to the depth of 10 meters.
Practicing free diving techniques and self/buddy assistant and rescue is also included in the training.

Duration:

Two to three days.

Prerequisites:

  1. Minimum age of 9 for Junior Open Water Free Diver or 16 for Open Water Free Diver certification.
  2. Competent swimming skills.
  3. SSI Snorkeler / Skin Diver or equivalent experience

The time quoted for the courses is the normal time taken providing that any candidate does not experience out of the ordinary difficulties with the elements involved.
The time is quoted in days, and this usually indicates a day from 7.00am to 18.00pm approx.
The days can be split, within reason, to suit you and to accommodate your other holiday commitments.

The Certification fee is included with all courses except Divemaster.
Full equipment hire is included with all courses except Divemaster.
