With crystal clear waters, with a visibility ranging from 20-40 meters, conditions for scuba diving in Zakynthos are ideal for underwater videography and photography, as well as very pleasant for scuba diving and snorkeling. Numerous species of sponges are everywhere and the fish fauna is very satisfactory. Quite often seahorses and jellyfish are swimming in the water column. The prairie of oceanic Posidonia is another feature in the island and the Mediterranean monk seals (Monachus monachus) declare their presence there.
In the winter months Zante has a high level of rainfall, helping to maintain a very green landscape in Zakynthos. The greenery of Zante helped to earn the island the title of the 'Flower of the East' from the ruling Venetians.
